Get to know your photographer!

Three things you might not know about me….I am the oldest of five children, my bachelor’s degree is not in any kind of art it’s actually in marketing and I love to watercolor paint! When I am not photographing babies, pregnant mommas, or families you can find me chasing around my 2.5 year old son, Sully, attending my 17 year old daughter Mady’s regatta or attending a concert with my husband, David. I love to travel, tend to my many plants and recently fuss over our vegetable garden! Special shout out to the Lipstick Plant featured in this photo, it’s my favorite plant inside at the moment and the perfect photo backdrop.

My grandmother, Hammaw (she’s 92!) is a watercolor artist. She taught me how to paint in my teens, but that skill escaped me until adulthood. Last year I picked it up again and it’s been the most calming and inspirational activity. It’s interesting when you create something you begin to look at the world a little differently. When I see trees now I study the shadow, and then I’ll think about the leaf color and how I would make that specific color with the little knowledge of color theory that I have. You don’t necessarily have to be great at it, and making something with your own two hands just feels good. It feel real. It feels human. Sometimes I will sit down to paint thinking twenty minutes have gone by and it’s been two whole hours! I do not keep many of my paintings, family and friends seem to like them so I gift anything that looks somewhat decent. Lately I have been making bookmarks, so if you’re a client and get a photo in the mail from me and I pop one in, you will know it was made with love!

The family photos are from the fall 2024 taken by the amazing Annette Heck.
